The Taste of Kashi is a new unscripted series by CGTN that takes the form of a thrilling 100-hour challenge in the desert city of Kashi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Nadim Diab, a journalist, content creator and coffee lover, faces an ambitious task: to craft a brew that captures the essence of this storied city. With the clock ticking, Nadim must navigate an unfamiliar landscape to draw inspiration – and ingredients – from the local culture and people. Luckily, help is never too far away.
Kashi is a carb lover's heaven, with offerings like baked beef buns, steamed pumpkin dumplings and sugar-dusted fried dough. Tea is also served with a type of flatbread, called naan, as part of an ancient tradition. In episode 4, Nadim takes a bold move by trying to pair coffee and bread. But adapting his drink to local tastes proves tricky, especially when Nadim, Dili, the local coffee shop owner, and Diya, his Tanzanian wife, can't agree on a flavor profile. Disagreements surface as they sip cup after cup of caffeine-spiked infusions of spices, herbs and flowers. Will the trio find a brew that unites them?
