China has seen a significant decline in the spread of respiratory infectious diseases nationwide, the National Health Commission (NHC) reported on Sunday. The number of flu-like cases has decreased, and there have been no new major infectious disease outbreaks.

Mi Feng, spokesperson for the NHC, said that the positivity rates of pneumonia mycoplasma continue to fall, and that other respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, remain at low levels. Mi emphasized that all ongoing cases are caused by known pathogens and the situation remains stable.

The announcement came just days before the Chinese New Year holiday, during which millions of people across the country are expected to travel to reunite with their families for the most significant holiday of the year.

In preparation for the holiday, the NHC also reminded citizens about the upcoming Lichun (Beginning of Spring) festival, set for February 4. Lichun marks the official start of spring and symbolizes a transition from the colder months. Mi noted the importance of adjusting to seasonal changes by nurturing one's health, with a focus on enhancing vitality and supporting liver function. "As the weather warms, people should continue to stay warm and engage in outdoor activities to promote overall health," he said.

Meteorological forecasts predict that China will experience widespread rain, snow and a cold snap in the coming days, with significant fluctuations in temperature. The NHC called on the public to be vigilant against illnesses such as colds and cardiovascular diseases, especially as people begin traveling for the holidays.
