Graphics: China witnesses substantial rise in women's education

Women's education in China has been progressing steadily over the years, with official data showing that female students now make up close to half of total enrollments across nearly all levels of schooling.

In 2024, females accounted for 47.3 percent of students in kindergartens, 46.98 percent in nine-year compulsory education and 49.3 percent at the senior high school level. At the higher education level, the share rose above parity, with women making up 50.76 percent of students in higher education institutions and 50.01 percent in graduate schools.

The data, released in a recent white paper by the State Council Information Office, highlights both the long-term expansion of women's access to education and the narrowing gender gap in higher learning.
