China and the US will work for positive outcomes at the first round of the Diplomatic and Security Dialogue to be held on Wednesday in Washington D.C.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made the remarks on Tuesday in response to a question on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, maritime and counter-terrorism issues to be discussed on the Dialogue.
Geng said China holds a consistent and clear stance on the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. "China sticks to solving this issue through dialogue and negotiation, and we insist on maintaining peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula. We hope relative parties to bear their responsibilities in pushing forward a proper resolution on this issue."

Concerning the South China Sea, Geng said with the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the South China Sea issue has returned to a correct direction of peaceful negotiation. "China hopes parties concerned show respect to the efforts made by other countries to resolve disputes through consultation, and contribute more to regional peace and stability," said the spokesman.
On the counter-terrorism issue, Geng said it is in the common interest for both sides to enhance cooperation as both are victims of terrorism. China hopes that the two sides will exchange views and expand cooperation on counter-terrorism based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
China and the United States will have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and other important issues of mutual interest at the Diplomatic and Security Dialogue, he added.
Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi will co-chair the D&SD with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
