The theme of World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2018 is “Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World.”
That came after world economies saw fractures growing wider as they adopt competitive positions based on different interests. Fractures are also emerging within countries as social instability increases.
China's continued commitment to international dialogue and cooperation is vital for bridging those differences.
“I’m pleased to say that President Xi with his participation last year, which was really historical, showed that China is willing and ready to assume what we called last year a responsive and responsible role in global affairs,” said Klaus Schwab, Founder & Chief Executive of WEF.
"Shared future" and the "Belt and Road Initiative" are two important terms in China's globalization process. Chinese President Xi Jinping has consistently stressed their significance in his previous speeches.
"China will continue to play its part as a major and responsible country, take an active part in reforming and developing the global governance system, and keep contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to global governance. The future of the world rests in the hands of the people of all countries; the future of mankind hinges on the choices they make. We are ready to work with the people of all other countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind, and create a bright tomorrow for all of us."
"We should build the Belt and Road into a road of prosperity. Development holds the master key of all the problems. In pursuing the Belt and Road initiative, we should focus on the fundamental issue of development, release the growth potential of various countries, and achieve economic integration and interconnected development, and deliver benefits to all.”
The world is expecting China to step up its role in charting the course of economic globalization and forging new growth models in such areas as trade, climate change and the future of the internet.
“We hope in this year we can lift up that spirit to Davos,” Schwab noted.
