South Africa is the only country in the world with three capitals: The administrative capital Pretoria, the legislative capital Cape Town and the judicial capital Bloemfontein.
On the second day of CGTN’s BRICS journey, CGTN's reporting team, together with CCTV’s Mandarin team, headed north to Pretoria, a city also known as “Jacaranda City” which is 46 kilometers from Johannesburg, the BRICS 2018 host city.

In Pretoria, the reporting team had the pleasure of talking with China's South African ambassador Lin Songtian about the ties between China and South Africa, which were established two decades ago, and the economic connections between the two countries.

In the afternoon, CGTN’s team set off to the Union Buildings, a centennial construction which forms the official seat of the national government and houses The Presidency. The Union Buildings have been an emblem of democracy in the country, and they are where Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in 1994 as the country’s first democratically elected leader.
The world’s tallest Mandela Nelson statue stands in the gardens of the grand construction. The statue was unveiled in 2013 to commemorate the great man.
Nelson Mandela was the president of South Africa between 1994 and 1999, and helped the country bring an end to apartheid, creating his legacy as a global advocate for human rights.
