From a historic handshake to a joint statement, the meeting between US President Donald Trump and the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un concluded Tuesday afternoon with a pledge from two countries to write a "new chapter."

US President Donald Trump held a press conference on Tuesday afternoon in Singapore after his meeting with the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un.

Trump said his meeting with Kim was honest, direct and productive under “strong circumstance”.

Trump thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping and President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in for their efforts on solving issues regarding the Korean Peninsula.

Trump added that Kim was very firm about denuclearization and the DPRK agreed to destroy a “major” missile engine testing site.

Trump said US will halt provocative and costly "war games" with ROK and he hopes that Korean War will end soon, adding that he and Kim are prepared to write a new chapter.

The top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump signed a "comprehensive" agreement on Tuesday afternoon.

Here are key points from the joint statement signed by Kim and Trump after the historic summit in Singapore:

1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establishing new US-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.

2. The United States and the DPRK will join efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to working towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

Kim left Sentosa island and arrived at the hotel where he stayed in Singapore after his summit with Trump ended.

Kim said "the world will see a major change" as he signed what he called a “historic” joint document with Trump.

The US president said the agreement was "pretty comprehensive," though details of the document were not immediately released. Trump did say the DPRK’s denuclearization process will be starting “very quickly,” in response to a question from a journalist.

Trump also said he “absolutely” would invite Kim to the White House, when asked by a reporter, and added that he expected to see the DPRK leader many times in the future.

Trump and Kim signed a joint document following their historic meeting in Singapore.

The US president called the document "important" and "comprehensive", while the DPRK leader described it as "historic."

Trump, Kim walked around the Capella Hotel together after taking a working lunch.

Trump said meeting with Kim "went better than anybody could have expected," and that he has made "a lot of progress," hinting at "a signing" with Kim.

An expanded bilateral meeting between the US and the DPRK began after one-on-one talks between Trump and Kim Jong Un ended.

Trump told Kim at the beginning of the meeting: "We will solve this, we will be successful, and I look forward to working on it with you. It will be done."

Trump said the one-on-one meeting was "very, very good," adding they have an "excellent relationship."

"I feel really great. We are going to have a great discussion, and I think tremendous success. It will be tremendously successful and it's my honor, and we will have a terrific relationship," said Trump.

"Well, it was not easy to get here… The old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward, but we overcame all of them and we are here today," said Kim.

Seated side-by-side ahead of their one-on-one meeting, the leaders spoke briefly to the press.

Trump described the meeting as an "honor" and said he was confident of a "terrific relationship" with Kim. The DPRK leader added that significant obstacles had been overcome to reach this point.

The two leaders will discuss a "permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism" on the Korean Peninsula, the denuclearization of the Peninsula and other issues of mutual concern, the DPRK’s state media KCNA reported earlier.

Kim arrived in Singapore on Sunday afternoon for his longest trip overseas as head of state.

Trump is fully prepared for the summit and will talk with Kim with a “positive attitude,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday at a news conference in Singapore, adding that the US objective is complete, verifiable denuclearization.

Trump arrived in Singapore on Sunday evening, flying in from the G7 Summit in Canada.
