Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday called for joint efforts to work out a "meticulous painting" of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to continuously promote its high-quality development toward a bright future.
President Xi made the remarks when chairing the leaders' roundtable meeting of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.
Upholding the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, President Xi noted the BRI in the past two years has made all-round progress in policy, trade, financial and people-to-people connectivity.
The BRI has injected new impetus to global economic growth and opened up new space for global development, he added.

High-quality BRI development

The Chinese president highlighted the importance of bringing high-quality development of Belt and Road cooperation and called on all parties to work on the result-oriented implementation of projects.
The BRI must be open, green, clean and seek high-standard, livelihood-improving and sustainable development, he pointed out.
It is necessary to integrate the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into the construction of the Belt and Road, Xi said, adding the BRI should be beneficial to all and deliver common development.

All-around connectivity

According to Xi, China is willing to work with BRI partners to focus on infrastructure interconnection, deepening intelligent manufacturing and cooperating in frontier areas of the digital economy.
"We must open our market wider and enhance trade and investment facilitation for the unimpeded flows of goods," said Xi.
He also called for building diversified financing systems and a multi-tiered capital market.
President Xi told BRI partners to promote extensive people-to-people exchanges in various forms, and undertake more cooperation projects that help to improve people's lives.

Connectivity partnership

Xi also called for strengthening the cooperation mechanism and focusing on building a connectivity partnership.
The Chinese president urged building an open world economy, upholding multilateralism and opposing trade protectionism.
As the BRI is in line with various global and regional development agendas, he said it should be docked with those agendas to have good synergies.
President Xi said more countries and enterprises were welcome to join the initiative, and deepen relations further through bilateral or multilateral cooperation.
The leaders exchanged in-depth views and reached important consensus. They agreed to pursue advanced connectivity, build closer partnerships and promote green and sustainable development.
Taking advantages of the Belt and Road platform, they also agreed to align policies with pragmatic cooperation better.
They believed that the BRI will make great contributions to global development, especially to the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The leaders hailed that the BRI is one of the greatest initiatives, which will deepen cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure construction, sustainable development and other fields.
The participants also congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the success China had achieved in economic and social development.
They said they are willing to further work with China to make the BRI benefit more people around the world.
