Xi vows to build China-Cape Verde model of cooperation

China and Cape Verde should work together to build the bilateral relations a model of solidarity and cooperation between big and small countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said.
Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Cape Verde's Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday, after the 2018 Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Xi hailed Cape Verde of attaching great importance to developing relations with China, saying that the two sides should firmly support each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns.
China praises Cape Verde for its active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to strengthen the strategic alignment and cooperation in the fields of infrastructure and marine economy, the Chinese president stressed.
The two sides should strengthen communication on issues such as climate change, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, safeguarding the common interests of the two countries and those of the developing countries, Xi added.
Correia said the 2018 Beijing summit of the FOCAC is a great success and the proposal of building a stronger and closer China-Africa community with a shared future and the various measures that follow is inspiring, leading the relations between China and Cape Verde to a new era.
Cape Verde adheres to the one-China policy and speaks highly of the Belt and Road Initiative, believing it is the hope of Africa and wish to participate actively, he added.
"I visited the Binhai New Area of Tianjin. I am inspired by it and the Cape Verde hopes to learn from its experience and carry out relevant cooperation," the prime minister noted.
