Seven people liable for a petrochemical leak in Quanzhou City, east China's Fujian Province, were arrested Wednesday, according to a press release from local government.
The document added that cleanup work has also been completed.
On November 4, 6.97 tons of C9 aromatic hydrocarbons were leaked from a petrochemical company in the Chinese port city of Quanzhou, prompting dozens of local people to seek medical treatment. Two patients remain hospitalized.
Atmospheric indicators from the monitoring stations have reached normal levels as of last Wednesday, according to the Quangang district government.
As of 3:00 p.m. last Thursday, over 400 vessels, 2,500 personnel, 732 bales of linoleum and 70 barrels of the oil-cleaning agent were used for oil absorption. The floating oil in the affected waters has been mainly cleaned up.
According to a statement released by the local government on November 8, the leak was from an aging hose pipe and was caused by the lack of implementation of safety measures.
Quangang District has arranged an emergency working capital of 5.5 million yuan (about 800,000 US dollars) for compensation to local people, the local government said in the statement on November 11.
