Seven years after China's first aircraft carrier was commissioned into the PLA Navy, a second such vessel, and also China's first home-made aircraft carrier is almost ready for service. CGTN interviewed Zhang Ye, a research fellow at the PLA Naval Research Institute. He explained the significance of China developing its own aircraft carrier and how it will help the Navy to achieve a strategic transition in the future.
