The summit between US President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un will be held on June 12 on the resort island of Sentosa in Singapore. CGTN’s senior correspondent Tian Wei is now in Singapore, bringing us the latest news from the summit. But before that, Tian paid a visit to the food center for international journalists. It is a place that reflects the multicultural mindset of Singapore.
Usually, lunch for international journalists covering a big event includes small sandwiches and big coffees, but for the DPRK and US summit, the Singapore authorities have prepared a lot. There are long lines of dishes ranging from international to those coming from different cultures, or are vegetarian or vegan. We can see that Singapore is trying to showcase delicacies from around the world.
For example, Laksa, a local delicacy, is a spicy noodle soup popular in Peranakan cuisine. Laksa consists of rice noodles or rice vermicelli with chicken, prawn or fish, served in spicy soup featuring either rich and spicy curry coconut milk or on sour asam (tamarind or gelugur). Laksa is found in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Southern Thailand.
They are also volunteers at the food center. They are preparing drinks for 2,500 journalists, something that's not an easy task. And they have been in Singapore for 17 years.

There is one special dessert in the food center called Kimchi ice cream. Kimchi, a staple in Korean cuisine, is a traditional side dish made from salted and fermented vegetables, most commonly napa cabbage and Korean radishes, with a variety of seasonings including chili powder, scallions, garlic, ginger, and jeotgal (salted seafood). Kimchi ice cream is a new invention that was created just two weeks ago and just in time for the summit.
