China brings opportunities, peace and stability to Latin America. The cooperation between China and Latin America countries will help improve the region's economy and brings tangible benefits to people of Latin America, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang underscored at a regular press conference on Monday.

Lu's remarks were made in response to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's Friday comments, which said that Chinese investments are "corrosive, giving life to corruption, and eroding good governance."

Lu refuted Pompeo's groundless accusation and responded by claiming that the United States is the one that severely damages the peace and stability of Latin America by treating the region as its "backyard," and imposing frequent military intervention or sanctions to that region.

The spokesperson further stated that China-Latin America cooperation is conducted based on the principle of mutual respect and mutual benefits. He took China's trade relations with Chile as an example. Among the total trade volume of 42.8 billion U.S. dollars reached between the two countries last year, the export volume of Chile was 26.9 billion U.S. dollars. The statistics show that China brings opportunities to Latin America countries, said Lu.

The United States' attempt to stir up China-Latin America relations will not succeed. China believes that Latin America countries have their own judgment, Lu stressed.

Sunday, Chinese Ambassador to Chile Xu Bu also slammed Pompeo's "malicious" accusation against China during his visit to Chile, saying “Pompeo has lost his mind and gone too far.”
