Russia's Lavrov slams U.S.' request to arrest Huawei CFO

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov blasted the U.S.' request for Canada to arrest Huawei's chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, saying it is another example of Washington's "revolting" policy of stretching its own law to other countries, Russia Today reported.

"It's an arrogant, jingoist policy no one accepts. It already sparks rejection even amongst the U.S.' closest allies. "It has to end," said Lavrov at a press conference.

Meng, the daughter of Huawei's founder Ren Zhengfei, was arrested on December 1 in Vancouver at the request of the U.S.

China's foreign ministry on Sunday summoned the Canadian ambassador to China, John McCallum, to lodge solemn representations and strongly protest the "unreasonable" arrest of her.

A bail hearing for Meng will continue on Monday at 1:00 p.m. local time, after nearly six hours of arguments and counter-arguments the court reached no decision last Saturday.
