Pyongyang will have a dialogue with the US administration if “conditions are right”, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported on Saturday, citing a senior diplomat in charge of US affairs at the DPRK's foreign ministry.
Choe Son Hui, the DPRK foreign ministry director ge‍neral for US affairs, made the comment to reporters at Beijing Capital International Airport as she was traveling from Norway back to the DPRK, according to the report.
There has been no official dialogue between the US government and the DPRK since Kim Jong Un assumed power in 2011. ‍
Choe was the leader of a DPRK delegation that met with a group of American experts in Oslo, Norway on Monday amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with some indications the DPRK could be preparing to conduct its sixth nuclear test, Yonhap reported, citing South Korean diplomatic sources.
Earlier in the month, US President Donald Trump said in an interview that he would be honored to meet DPRK leader Kim Jong Un under the right circumstances, after calling Kim "a pretty smart cookie" on his 100th day in the White House.
