The situation on the Korean Peninsula might further escalate and even get out of control, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned on Thursday while meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov on the sidelines of a meeting at the United Nations.

Wang added that China and Russia enjoy their comprehensive strategic partnership and have been maintaining close communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. As for the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, the dual-track approach as well as the suspension-for-suspension proposal that China has put forward, coincides with suggestions made by the Russian side. Both countries look to continue with a frequent dialogue mechanism in order to find a solution.
The dual-track approach proposes simultaneous efforts for the denuclearization process on the peninsula, and negotiations to replace the armistice between the DPRK and ROK with a peace treaty.
The suspension-for-suspension proposal means a suspension of nuclear activities and missile launches by Pyongyang, and a halt of large-scale joint war games by Seoul and Washington.

Both sides agreed that under the circumstances, all parties should fully carry out the UN Security Council's resolutions on the DPRK.
On one side, measures should be taken to deter the country's nuclear missile development program, while on the other, all related parties should play better roles of mediator, bringing the DPRK nuclear issue back to the right track of dialogue and negotiation.
Wang and Gatilov are attending an open ministerial meeting on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue held by the UN Security Council on Friday.
