The DPRK on Saturday launched a massive military parade in Pyongyang, marking the 105th birthday of the country’s founder Kim Il Sung.
The late leader’s birthday, known as the “Day of the Sun,” has been one of DPRK’s most important holidays.
According to Rafael Wober, a senior Associated Press video journalist, the parade sent a message that the country’s arms buildup was being done for the sake of self-defense.
On one float that took part in the parade, the words “For the sake of world peace and safety” were written in Korean.
“That’s DPRK’s insistence that it’s development of missiles, nuclear weapons, which so scares the outside world. Actually, they always try to say that they’re trying to defend themselves and maintain a deterrent and keep their country and their region safe,” Wober told CGTN.
