Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Tuesday declared April 25 as "La La Land" day, in honor of the Oscar-winning movie which was filmed across the Californian city.
"It (La La Land) inspires our heart and inspires our city," Garcetti said in front of the LA City Hall. "Have a great La La Land Day, everybody."
After his speech, Garcetti played a few of the songs from the movie on a piano. Hundreds of citizens were joined for the festivities by the film's Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle and Oscar-winning composer Justin Hurwitz.

"Very cool" is how Hurwitz described the recognition ahead of the special day. "With the film and the music, we were hoping to capture certain flavors, colors and feelings of Los Angeles, so to have the actual city embrace the film is very flattering," producer Jordan Horowitz told The Hollywood Reporter.

Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, the movie-musical tells the love story of a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress in Los Angeles.
"La La Land" swept the 89th Academy Awards, winning Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Score and Best Original Song among other awards. However, it failed to take home the Best Film or Best Actor trophy. The film has grossed over 440 million US dollars at the box office.
