The Philippine government says it is committed to fighting terrorism in the country amid the ongoing conflict in the southern city of Marawi.

Martin Andanar from the presidential communications office of the Philippines said violent extremism and terrorism should be contained, and President Duterte has the political will and the decisiveness to end the terrorism problem in the Philippines.

The Philippine military has confirmed fighters from Malaysia and Indonesia were found among the militants killed on May 26, citing this as proof foreign terrorists are in the country. The government says it is ready to work with international partners to prevent terrorists in the region from crossing national borders and to ensure extremism in the region is eliminated.
