UN Security Council calls on tightening sanctions on DPRK

The UN Security Council discussed tightening sanctions on the DPRK during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday after the country launched its latest ballistic missile, AFP reported.
US Ambassador Nikki Haley said during a press conference ahead of the meeting that the US was working on a new sanctions resolution and warned that all countries must step up action against the DPRK.

"We all have to send a sign to the DPRK. This is not play time. This is serious. These threats are not welcome‍." Haley told media.
She dismissed the prospect of direct talks with the DPRK "until we see a total stop of the nuclear process and of any test there."

The US, Japan and South Korea agreed Tuesday to promote trilateral cooperation to tackle the DPRK's belligerence highlighted by its ballistic missile launch on Sunday.
