Trump meets with Chinese state councilor, says he's willing to strengthen Sino-US ties

Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with US President Donald Trump on Friday in the White House. The meeting was part of a two-day trip to Washington, which included talks between Yang and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

During the meeting, Trump called China-US relations very important and expressed his willingness to strengthen ties.
The two sides agreed to hold the second round of the Diplomatic and Security Dialogue in China during the first half of the year, which is a part of the four high-level dialogue mechanisms serving to boost better China-US ties.
"We will strengthen coordination on international and regional issues such as the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, properly manage differences and sensitive issues, and push for greater development of China-US relations in the New Year," Yang said referring to the upcoming Chinese New Year. 
In response, President Trump asked Yang to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, "The state visit to China in November last year was very successful, and China-US relations is very important," Trump said.
"US would like to work with China to strengthen cooperation, and promote more positive progress in the relations between the two countries," he added.
Yang also met with United States National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster and senior advisor Jared Kushner in the White House.
