The exhibition, which opened last week and runs until August 9, features paintings, sculptures and models, and leads visitors through the Chinese army’s history. It is the latest in a series of such shows held every five years.
"The scale of this year's exhibition is very large and more than 7,000 artists contributed. We selected some 600 of their works to be presented at the National Art Museum, as well as at the Eight-One Museum [also in Beijing]," said Li Xiang, vice director of the China Artist Association.
While many of the pieces focus on famous battles and civil-military relations, others showcase the progression of the PLA.
