At a parliamentary hearing into Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s role in the Kake Educational Institution Scandal on Monday, former vice education minister Kihei Maekawa said the process was "extremely unfair and not transparent."
Abe did not attend the hearing.
Opposition lawmakers are trying to determine if Abe’s administration was involved in the scandal.
Abe is accused of working in secret to push for a controversial school project to benefit a close friend, Kotaro Kake, chair of the Kate Educational Institution in June.
