Five reasons why China and India can deepen cooperation
The ambassador said both China and India face the challenge of protectionism and unilateralism, and the two countries should strengthen strategic communication and enhance political mutual trust, and expand common interests.
When dealing with regional affairs, both sides should resolve disputes peacefully through dialogue and jointly uphold regional peace and stability.
President Xi and Prime Minister Modi reached an important consensus in an informal meeting in Wuhan in April last year on the development of China-India ties, Sun said. The two countries have actively implemented the consensus since then.
In September, the two countries held the 6th Strategic Economic Dialogue and the 9th Financial Dialogue and reached a new consensus on cooperation in policy coordination, infrastructure, energy conservation and environmental protection, high technology, energy and medicine, Sun noted.
China is India's largest trading partner and India is China's largest trading partner in South Asia. The bilateral trade stood at nearly 100 billion U.S. dollars last year.
According to the ambassador, over 1,000 Chinese companies have increased their investment in India's industrial parks, e-commerce and other sectors, with a total investment of eight billion U.S. dollars and 200,000 local jobs created.
Speaking of non-governmental exchanges, Sun said the two countries have established the mechanism of high-level people-to-people exchanges, opening a new chapter in personnel and cultural exchanges.
"Practicing yoga, drinking Indian black tea and watching Bollywood movies have become a fashion among Chinese youth. Chinese movie stars such as Jackie Chan are household names in India. People in India enjoy acupuncture, martial arts and Chinese cuisine," he said.
