China attaches great importance to French President Emmanuel Macron's upcoming state visit, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Macron's diplomatic counselor Emmanuel Bonne during a phone conversation on Friday, adding that the two countries should jointly uphold multilateralism.

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Macron will attend the opening ceremony of the second China International Import Expo and pay a state visit to China from Monday to Wednesday. It will be Macron's second state visit to China following his previous trip in January 2018. Xi also paid a state visit to France in March.

Macon's upcoming visit will be another top-level strategic exchange between the two heads of state, Wang said. The two sides should present a "unified voice" to uphold multilateralism and the authority of the United Nations, he added, calling it responsibilities of China and France as permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Bonne said France is willing to work closely with China to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields and strive for new progress in the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi and Macron held a phone conversation on October 15, vowing to jointly address global challenges.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and France.
