President Xi's article on global solidarity, cooperation to fight COVID-19 to be published

An article by Chinese President Xi Jinping on global solidarity and cooperation to battle the COVID-19 pandemic will be published on Thursday. 

The article by President Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will appear in the eighth issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.

Solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapon against the disease, the article said.

The COVID-19 outbreak is spreading worldwide, posing an enormous threat to life and health and bringing a formidable challenge to global public health security, according to the article. 

It noted that it is imperative for the international community to strengthen confidence, act with unity and work together in a collective response. 

Viruses respect no borders, and epidemics do not distinguish between races, said the article, adding that major emergencies like the COVID-19 outbreak will not be the last one in an era of economic globalization, and mankind will continue to be tested by various traditional and non-traditional security challenges. 

This global public health emergency has driven home the urgency and imperative of building a community with a shared future for humanity, the article said, stressing that only with solidarity and cooperation can the international community prevail over the epidemic and protect humanity's common home.

How Xi Jinping leads China's war against COVID-19

For example, in a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart on March 19, Xi said that China stands ready to work with all other countries to step up international cooperation against COVID-19 and safeguard global public health security.  

He added that China is willing to make concerted efforts with Russia and all other countries to tackle common threats and challenges and safeguard global public health security, calling for closer international cooperation in epidemic prevention and control, experience sharing on containment and treatment, and facilitation of joint research.

China upholds the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, the article read, noting that the Chinese government has acted in an open, transparent and responsible manner and provided timely updates on the outbreak to the World Health Organization (WHO) and relevant countries and regions. 

It also added that the Chinese government has released the genome sequencing of the virus at the earliest opportunity and has been sharing control and treatment experience with the WHO and the international community without reservation.

The stance was echoed in phone conversation between Xi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on March 12.

Xi reiterated that the epidemic has once again demonstrated mankind is a community with a shared future that shares weal and woe, adding that in the era of economic globalization, COVID-19 will not be the world's last major emergency, and various traditional and non-traditional security issues will constantly bring about new tests.

China is ready to reciprocate kindness by experiences sharing

At the most difficult moment in its COVID-19 fight, China received assistance and help from a lot of members of the international community, the article said, adding that China has also been supporting the global COVID-19 fight to the best of its ability. 

Such as his message to Spanish King Felipe VI, Xi confirmed China's firm stance to share the experience on epidemic prevention and control as well as diagnosis and treatment plans, adding that China will do its best to provide support and assistance to help Spain.

Also, Xi expressed his gratitude to Serbia's tangible support for China's fight against COVID-19 and said China firmly supports Serbia's efforts against the epidemic in his message to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

"I attach great importance to the development of China-Serbia relations," he said, adding that in the joint fight against the epidemic, the two countries' bilateral traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership will be further deepened.

During an inspection tour of two major institutions researching COVID-19 on early March, Xi said the outbreak is a challenge for human beings as a whole, and to deal with it needs joint efforts from across the world. He also pledged to strengthen communication with the international community.
