Every year in October, the wetlands around Yuncheng Salt Lake embrace their busiest time of the year. The warm and wide open water, along with luxuriant water plants here, makes the Yuncheng Wetland Nature Reserve an ideal winter home for migratory birds. Among the bustling crowds of wading birds, the elegant whooper swans from Siberia stand out as the beautiful ballerinas that light up the quiet winter lake.

The Yellow River had been nourishing this vast land of loess for thousands of years, cradling not only the rich Chinese culture, but also numerous wildlife species and mesmerizing geological wonders.
