Margaret Chan, a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and former director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), has called for international cooperation on COVID-19, describing it as the only way to win the COVID-19 battle.

Chan made the remark while speaking at the second plenary meeting of the third session of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC on Sunday. According to Chan, the pandemic will help people better understand the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Chan hailed China's great efforts in containing the virus and the country's active participation in global COVID-19 cooperation.

Cooperation is the only way to win the battle against the pandemic, Chan stressed, stating that China consistently shared information with the WHO and maintained close contact with other countries.

Noting that the pandemic is unprecedented in terms of its spread and fatality, Chan warned that any negative response to its management might cause disastrous consequences.

She spoke highly of China's prevention and control measures, pointing out that the international community has well recognized its effectiveness. It is a precious experience that may benefit the entire international community, Chan said.

China has sent over 20 medical teams and provided urgently needed medical supplies to more than 150 countries and international organizations since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also shared prevention experience and medical treatment with more than 180 countries, regional and international organizations.

The generous offer is a perfect interpretation of the idea of a community with a shared future for mankind, Chan said.
