City of Wild: Beijing – a pigeon-friendly Chinese city

Pigeons are one of the most common birds in the Chinese capital city of Beijing. Even as Beijingers like to keep pigeons as pets, there is a good number of free birds in the city. These birds nest in and around air conditioning units, which provide them safe shelter and warmth. Rich in natural food resources like flowers, grass seeds and fruits, the city offers a tempting feast to the birds.

Some flocks of birds have their own territories, enjoying a stable relationship with their human neighbors. Some people bring rice to feed these birds every day during early morning and late afternoon.

About 'City of Wild'

Nature does not only exist in faraway mountains and oceans, but also in urban cities and our daily life. In the new series City of Wild, CGTN not only unfolds a world of wildlife you've never noticed, but also shares a concept of this year's CBD COP 15 theme: "Ecological Civilization – Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth."
