The leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is the strong political and organizational guarantee for China's poverty eradication achievements, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday.

Xi made the remarks in his speech at a national commendation conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to honor contributors to the country's extreme poverty eradication work.

China established a working mechanism to mobilize the whole Party into anti-poverty efforts focusing on coordination by central government, overall responsibility on provinces and implementation by cities and counties, Xi said.

Party chiefs at all levels assumed responsibilities of local poverty eradication work with officials from 22 central and western provinces signing responsibility statements for the central government on poverty eradication.

Grassroots CPC organizations in villages were built into "fortresses" in the battle against poverty, Xi noted.

The country has selected and dispatched a total of 255,000 village-based working teams, more than 3 million first secretaries of CPC village committees and village-based officials, who fought on the frontline of poverty eradication together with millions of local officials.
