Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday stressed that the one-China principle is the political foundation of the China-U.S. relationship, and on the Taiwan question, there is "no room for compromise or concession."

He made the remarks during a virtual press conference on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress in Beijing.

China hopes the U.S. government will properly handle the Taiwan issue and depart from the previous administration's dangerous practice of "crossing the red line" and "playing with fire," he said.

Wang stressed that the two sides of the Taiwan Straits must be and will surely be reunified.

"This is the trend of history and collective will of the entire Chinese nation. It will not and cannot be changed," he added.
