Heron struggles to swallow slippery loach in central China
For over 20 minutes, a young night heron held a pond loach between its bills, struggling to gobble the prey down in Jingzhou City of central China's Hubei Province on Thursday.
In the video taken by a bird photographer in Jingzhou, the animal was shaking the loach from time to time, a tactic that is frequented by birds in an attempt the break the spine of the prey. However, the loach showed no sign of surrender.
The bird feeds on small fish, frogs and aquatic insects and small mammals. The slippery loach proves a tough meal.
