The Zhangye National Geopark in northwest China's Gansu Province is famous for the magnificent Danxia landform. The unusual colors of sandstones resembling pinky sunglows give it the name of "Danxia," or vermillion sunglows in Chinese.

Covering a land area of around 410 square kilometers, the Danxia landform was formed about 2 million years ago, with the colorful rocky mountains revealed after years of tectonic uplift, weathering and erosion.
