The Communist Party of China (CPC) has been staunch in safeguarding the interests of the developing countries and it has helped provide Chinese wisdom for humanity and Chinese methods to global issues, said a top scholar at a briefing on history and literature of the CPC on Sunday.

"Our Party has always stuck to the principle of independence, staunchly safeguarded the interests of the vast developing countries, believed that all countries, large or small, strong or weak, are all equal, and firmly opposed colonialism, hegemony and power politics," Qu Qingshan, president of the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, told reporters at the first press conference held at the Press Center for the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC in Beijing.

The CPC has showcased a new possibility for nations that want to speed up their development but at the same time maintain their independence, said Qu.

In addition to the world, the CPC has also made great contributions to China, the Chinese people and the Chinese nation over the past 100 years, he added.

Statistics show, as of the end of 2019, the Communist Party of China had more than 91.9 million members, and there were more than 4.6 million grassroots Party organizations across China, said Jiang Shuping, director of the third department of the Institute.

"The CPC has developed from a political party with just 50 plus members into the largest Marxist ruling party in the world," she said.

Asked what is behind the CPC's success, Jiang said the reason is four-fold, namely the Party has always kept abreast of the times, led efforts to crack difficulties, safeguarded people's fundamental interests, and improved its self-building.

As part of the celebrations, the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee will publish "Chronicle of Events in CPC's 100 Years," a 100,000-word article, in newspaper People's Daily in the next three days, said Qu.

"We must study the Party's history and learn from it, and carry the Party's precious experience forward," he said, stressing the importance of getting wisdom and strength from the CPC's history.
