Animal husbandry is the pillar of the economy in Luhuo County in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province, which has led to the increasing number of areas of abandoned farmlands and pastures. There were degraded pastures, desertified lands, shrinking wetlands, soil erosion and other serious ecological problems. In 2018, the ecotone governance project was launched in the western Sichuan Plateau and afforestation cooperatives were established across the county. The poor villagers not only improved the ecology by afforestation but also got their wages and got out of poverty.

The project for ecotones has provided 228,800 labor services for local herdsmen in the county, with a total payment of 22,880,000 yuan. Eighty-eight poor villages in the county were lifted out of poverty in 2020.
