Wapo is from a registered poverty-stricken household in Luoba Village, , southwest China's Sichuan Province. He used to farm for a living. With barren land and primitive tools, his family's living conditions were getting worse. In the late 1990s, in response to the deterioration of slope farmland, the project of returning farmland to forests and grasslands was first launched in Sichuan. Wapo has gradually stopped farming and joined the project.

By 2020, Wapo had returned about 1.7 hectares of his slope farmland with a subsidy of more than 37,000 yuan. His wife works as a full-time forest ranger patrolling in the forest every day. But there's more to their story. Check out the video to learn more.
