Reporter's note: This is the fifth episode of our special series "Millennials on the Rise," where CGTN speaks to some of the youngest delegates to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). They are grassroots Party members from all walks of life, ranging from the deputy chief of a Guizhou township to the head of an emergency rescue unit.
Most people wouldn't associate the word "deliveryman" with the Communist Party of China (CPC), let alone imagine one as a delegate to the CPC National Congress. But those people haven't met Song Xuewen.
"There are about four million doing what I do across the country," said the 10-year package delivery veteran. "In our era, anyone can shine in their ordinary job as long as they work hard without fear of hardship."
E-commerce is a hallmark of increasing convenience in China, where young men (hailed "little brothers") ensure that packages arrive at your door within days, no matter your location.
"I don't think it's a big deal to sometimes have to re-deliver for absent customers. We're young. Climbing stairs and the occasional added service are just part of the job," Song told CGTN.
Song hopes that more deliverymen will leverage their knowledge and shoulder greater responsibilities.
"As a 'little brother', we easily shuffle between street corners. We know the streets well." As a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, he hopes that humble workers like him can "participate in grassroots-level governance and assist through our efforts."
