Nestled in the mountains of west-central Colombia's Quindio department, Quindio Botanical Garden is the country's third most visited botanical garden and has the position of an environmental education center. Covering 15 hectares of forest, it hosts the country's most renowned butterfly house with 185 colorful species. It represents decades of work by its founder, Alberto Gomez Mejia, who says it is important not only to engage in conservation in spaces like the Botanical Garden but also impart this knowledge to the community to help conserve this natural heritage.
