In the frigid northwestern part of southwest China's Sichuan Province lies a significant wetland, a piece of the "Earth's kidney." Located in Sershul County in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is Changshagongma National Nature Reserve.
About half of the reserve is dominated by wetlands, most of which are peat swamps. These waters replenish the Yangtze and Yellow rivers. The reserve offers a sanctuary for the Tibetan wild ass.

Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is characterized by long mountain ridges, river valleys, lush forests and alpine grasslands. The region, however, shows a completely different landscape in winter. In this series, we take you to the frozen land to discover how the creatures struggle to survive the freezing season.
