A growing number of U.S. citizens are considering emigration. According to 2022 Gallup polls, as much as 15 percent of Americans say they want to leave the country permanently, and even more say they would consider expatriating at the appropriate time.

Tara Milo, who moved to Lisbon, Portugal from Ohio five years ago, told CGTN about her concerns about the violence and fear in the American society and culture, which ultimately led to her leaving the U.S. Living in the United States, Tara was constantly worried about whether a school shooting will happen where her ex-husband worked, and as a woman, she had to be aware of her surroundings when walking down the street. After moving to a relatively safe country, she can finally let her guard down and enjoy life.
