This is a traditional Ewenki animal skin mosaic. In the old days, the Ewenki people lived by hunting. As China's only reindeer-using tribe, they have formed an art by using animal furs, plants and other ingredients from nature to make mosaics. And the images on the mosaics have portrayed their daily lives, histories, societies and religious faith.
This whole mosaic is composed of some 100 animal skins. It was created by a Han artist named Song Shihua. In recent years, when the Ewenki gave up hunting, animal fur became rare. She finds new ways to gain new materials. Check out this episode to learn more about art and nature.
