In August, Lugu Lake stretches far into the horizon. Located on the boundary between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, Lugu Lake is the highest lake in Yunnan. From May to October, the lake is dotted with small, white flowers that fluctuate with waves. This species is a variety of Ottelia acuminata. The locals often call it by the moniker "watery polar." When the sun shines on the lake, the stems and leaves lift the flowers out of the water. After the sun goes down, the petals close and submerge.
