Piraeus is one of the largest ports on the Mediterranean, with a history going back to the days of the ancient Greek city-states. Back then, Chinese silk made its way here, brought by Scythian merchants, to be sold throughout Greece. The enduring connection between the two ancient civilizations has continued for over 2,000 years. Thanks to Chinese investment, the Port of Piraeus has been rescued from crisis in recent years, and has been restored as Greece's gateway to the world.
