For thousands of years, people have been fascinated by the night sky. Through their observations, reflections and questions concerning the origins of the moon and stars, they have sought to understand the nature of the eternal struggle between finite life and the vastness of the universe. The knowledge that life has its limits while "knowledge knows no bounds" is inherent in China. Bai Jikai is a senior photo-journalist with Beijing Daily and has focused on filming the night sky for the past 30 years. He believes that it is always possible to break through the limitations of time and space and transcend the obstacle of distance, and that this allows us to perceive the eternal and unchanging nature of the universe.
