China Media Group (CMG) on Thursday released its 10 most significant pieces of Chinese sports news.
1. The 31st International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games was hosted in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, between July 28 and August 8; the 19th Asian Games was hosted in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province between September 23 and October 28.
2. China beat Japan to win the FIBA Women's Asian Cup title in Sydney, Australia, on July 2.
3. China swept South Korea to clinch their 13th Sudirman Cup championship in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province, on May 21.
4. China won 20 gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, between July 14 and 30.
5. Ding Liren became the first male Chinese to win the title at the World Chess Championship at the St Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan, on April 30.
