To fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and accelerate the construction of a strong agriculture sector, President Xi Jinping has said that "we must improve the mechanisms of self-governance by the masses at the grassroots level, mobilize the enthusiasm of the urban and rural people, enterprises, institutions, and social organizations for autonomous self-governance, and create a community of social governance in which everyone has responsibilities and everyone fulfills their duties." All localities have gradually developed and improved a rural governance system that combines autonomy, rule of law and rule by virtue under the leadership of CPC, making rural areas both vibrant and stable.
Steven Back, a Hungarian vlogger who has lived in China for nearly 20 years, learned about Niu Huang Village, a small village in the Chongqing Municipality's Yubei District, during his research on rural traditional architecture. He witnessed a "village assembly" and learned how villagers have benefited from China's self-governing system for villages and about their rural revitalization strategy.
He said, "In Niu Huang Village, locals can elect village committee members by themselves. If they encounter problems, they can attend the village assembly. This is a prime example of self-governance of the villagers, and it can also help them lead better lives in the future."
