The Pula people, residing in Yuanjiang County and other areas in southwestern China, are considered a branch of the Yi ethnic group with a remarkably developed culture. Many ancient sites along the Red River used to host ancient Pula tribes. Their distinctive earthen pottery was common in households across southeastern Yunnan Province.
