Alpacas, native to the Andean regions of South America, are not just cute – they're also a treasure trove of resources for humans. Their soft, warm fleece is highly valued for its exceptional quality, while their meat serves as a nutritious food source. In addition, alpaca bones and leather can be crafted into musical instruments and footwear, their fat has medicinal applications, and their dung is an effective natural fertilizer.
According to the Exporters Association (ADEX), from January to May, Peru witnessed a 33-percent increase in the export of alpaca wool and its products, raking in $89 million. China was the leading buyer, purchasing over $29 million worth of these exports.
