Clashes between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police renewed outside East Jerusalem's al-Aqsa Mosque on Saturday night.
Fights broke out following evening prayers at the compound. It came one day after six people killed in two separate incidents, in an outbreak of violence over Israel’s placement of metal detectors at the entrances to the sacred mosque.
Police said protesters were dispersed by stun grenades as they hurled water bottles at authorities.
The site is known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount, which has been under Israeli occupation since the Six-Day War in 1967. It has been a holy site for thousands of years revered by Jewish, Christians and Muslims.
