Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attends G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the Japanese city of Nagoya, the 51st Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) kicks off ahead of the expiration of a South Korea-Japan military intelligence sharing pact, UK PM Boris Johnson launches the first head-to-head debate with the Opposition's leader Jeremy Corbyn on ITV, and the 2019 District Council Ordinary Election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is set to be held.

Another push for China-Japan relations as Wang Yi attends G20 FMs' Meeting?

The G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be held in the Japanese city of Nagoya on November 22 and 23, during which further facilitating trade and investment and improving functions of the existing multilateral frameworks will be discussed based on the outcomes of the Osaka Summit.

Experts believe that Wang Yi's attendance at the meeting will be another chance to pushing China-Japan relations forward ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's planned visit to Japan next spring. More cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism and sports can be expected.

The meeting will be the last of the relevant ministerial meetings under Japan's presidency. The presidency will be handed over to Saudi Arabia, which will assume the presidency for 2020 at this meeting.

Chance for GSOMIA, die or delay?

South Korean Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo and U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper will hold the 51st SCM on Friday at the headquarters of the South Korean defense ministry in Seoul.

The security meeting comes ahead of the scheduled November 23 expiration of the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), a bilateral accord signed by Seoul and Tokyo in November 2016 to share military intelligence on nuclear and missile programs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in November 2016.

The accord comes up for renewal each year but can be canceled by either party giving notice by August 24, which South Korea has done

Considering the pact a key pillar of trilateral security cooperation, the U.S. has been working to intensify pressure on Seoul to reconsider its decision while South Korea's defense ministry has said it was not reviewing the delay of the termination.

First head-to-head debate: Boris Johnson & Jeremy Corbyn

With the December general election fast approaching, party leaders will be taking part in TV debates in the hope of gaining the electorate's support and crucial votes.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn will go head-to-head in the first televised debate on Tuesday on ITV, marking the first time since 2015 that both the Labour and Conservative party leaders have taken part in a TV debate.

Corbyn has accused Johnson of seeking to hijack Brexit to unleash a Thatcherite bonfire of regulation that would usher in what he cast as a much harsher brand of American-style capitalism while Johnson has accused the Labour leader of wanting to "go back to square one."

HK district council election on time?

The 2019 District Council Ordinary Election of the HKSAR is set to be held on the coming Sunday, with over 4.13 million voters registered to cast their ballots.

Massive destruction to infrastructure facilities, paralyzed public transport and threats to personal safety will be some negative factors that will jeopardize the election, but the HKSAR government vowed that it will spare no effort in ensuring that the election will be held safely, orderly and on time.

Earlier this month, Junius Ho, an HKSAR lawmaker running for district council re-election in Tuen Mun, was stabbed in the chest by a man at his election campaign event.
